Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is funding in addition to the school’s budget. Schools are free to decide how to allocate this funding to best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.

In 2019 - 2020 our Pupil Premium funding was £125400, in 2020 - 2021 it was £149810

This year our allocation is £148155 .

Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is money that the government allocates to schools on the basis of children being eligible for free school meals; being Looked After Children; Special Guardianship Children, Child Arrangement Order and Children Adopted from Care.  It is intended to be used to help narrow the achievement gap as nationally, pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding do not achieve as well as those pupils who are not eligible. At Coppull Primary School and Nursery, we strive to ensure all pupils achieve their potential.

Pupil Premium is a significant amount of money and it is important that all families who may be eligible for free school meals or certain government benefits, such as Job Seekers Allowance or Income Support, make sure that they apply. Please see the school office if you are unsure. Every school is free to decide how best to direct this funding to meet the needs of individual pupils.

Eligibility

To check eligibility, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals

All children receive a Universal Free school meal until the end of Year 2 but it is still important to register as being eligible as this can result in further academic and financial support in school.

Pupil Premium at Coppull Primary School and Nursery

As a school we are committed to raising the achievement for pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium and understand that many of these pupils must make accelerated progress compared to non-eligible pupils to achieve this. We, as a school, are able to determine how best to use the Pupil Premium grant to support pupils and raise educational attainment. We create an overall support strategy aimed to tackle a range of barriers as specified in the pupil premium spending plan attached.

At Coppull Primary School and Nursery, we recognise that many children face multiple barriers to learning and as a result require some form of intervention or pastoral support.  We have committed to funding our Wellbeing Team through Pupil Premium as we as feel that without this invaluable support mechanism, many of our children would be at a disadvantage and not achieve their full potential.  The family support team have proactive intervention groups; various therapy sessions with individuals alongside undertaking a huge amount of reactive work on a day to day basis.

In addition to this, we have chosen to allocate some of the spending to fund teaching assistants to undertake intervention sessions with children who require support.  These intervention sessions take place before, during and after school.

We have also taken the decision to use the pupil premium grant to fund/part fund trips and visits for eligible pupils; magic breakfast provision; funding places in activity clubs and various support interventions for eligible children.

The spending plan will be reviewed July 2021.

Pupil Premium Grant for 2020-21

For the academic year 2020-2021, please see the Pupil Premium Strategy attached. This details the following information:

·         The school’s Pupil Premium grant allocation.

·         A summary of the main barriers to educational achievement faced by eligible pupils at the school.

·         How we will spend the Pupil Premium to overcome these barriers and reasons for the approach.

·         How we will measure the impact of the pupil premium.

In order to plan how we spend the Pupil Premium Grant, we have analysed the impact of Pupil Premium funding from the previous year to identify strengths and areas for development based on end of year outcomes.  We have also drawn on research evidence and from experience to allocate the funding to areas that are most likely to have an impact on improving achievement for all of our pupils at Coppull Primary School and Nursery.
