Welcome to Cypress class with Miss Proctor and Mrs Gorvett.
We are a mixed Year 5/6 class and all work together to grow, develop and achieve success and have fun. In Cypress class, we like to encourage our children to be active, independent learners and prepare them for the challenges of Upper Key Stage 2 and moving onto high school. We want the children in Cypress class to have high expectations of themselves and be the best that they can be.
Our PE day for this half term is Wednesday. We are continuing to ask children to come to school in trainers, grey or black leggings/jogging bottoms/shorts with their white PE t-shirt and red jumper or cardigan. Please do not send children in other t-shirts and hoodies.
Swimming will take place every Wednesday, children will need a swimming costume/swimming trunks or shorts, a towel and a swimming hat (available from the school office). Swimming is part of the National Curriculum and so it is important that children participate in their lessons each week.
Cypress class pupils will learn to play the keyboard. These lessons take place every Monday and will be delivered by Mr Richards.
Each pupil should bring their own water bottle to school with them each day for when they need a drink. These will need to be taken home at the end of each day to be washed. We are continuing to provide toast and bagels at break time. If your child would like toast or a bagel the cost for a half term will be £7.20 or £1 per week and should be paid in advance. Children may bring their own snack but please make sure this is a healthy choice.
Read 4 the Stars
Please ensure that reading records are returned each Friday to Mrs Gorvett so that she can check your child’s weekly reading. If you forget to return your child’s reading record, please send a picture of the reading record to Mrs Gorvett on dojo. It is really important to encourage your child to read regularly at home. It’s also an important life skill and will support their writing skills.
Homework and Spellings
Spellings will be set on a Monday each week and will be tested the following Monday. Homework – maths and English - will be sent out in the children’s homework folders every Monday and children should complete this at home. Homework should be returned in their folders every Friday along with reading records. Children can also practice their multiplication tables on TTRockstars.
If you have any questions regarding the above information or anything at all, please contact me via Class Dojo. Thank you for your support, we look forward to working with you this coming year.
