Reception 1- Rowan

Reception 1- Rowan

Welcome to Rowan Class.

Starting school is an exciting time with new friends, new experiences and learning new skills. The class teachers love to help support our children and parents to feel a part of our school community. We want children to have lots of fun and learn through practical experiences such as exploring, investigating, recording information and school trips. Through the year your children will become confident, independent and resilient learners which will help prepare them for KS1. Children will become familiar with the Growth Mindset Monsters and our motivational quotes: I can learn anything that I want to, I never give up and mistakes help me learn.

Key Information

Please can we ask that you send your child to school in a warm, waterproof coat (named) with hats and gloves as the children love to play outside whatever the weather? Please ensure that any new uniform is labelled with your child’s name. A gentle reminder that the school uniform policy states that black shoes must be worn at all times (no trainers or boots). Children also need to bring a named water bottle into school each day. These can then be left in your child’s classroom and refilled with fresh water each day or sooner if required.Children need to bring their school bag with their reading book every day. It is really important that we read with your child during the week and change their reading books when required. If you have any questions please speak with a member of the reception team or contact us via Class Dojo.

Read for the stars: The children are all making pleasing progress in reading. Please keep up with reading at home as it is vital for their progress to have regular practise. All children need to read at least four times a week in order to be named as a ‘ star reader ‘ and gain stars on the chart. The more stars a child gains, the greater reward your child will receive at the end of term. Please ensure that you sign and date your child’s reading diary each time you read with them. We hope you can help us gain our highest percentage in the spring term and continue to support your child’s developing reading skills.

Toast Money is due in on a Monday at a cost of £1.00 per week. Could we request that the voluntary foundation stage fund money of £2 is sent into school on a Monday please. Please send all money in a named envelope and hand in to a member of staff.

During the spring term your child will participate in the  Bikeability balance bike sessions. A letter will follow with more details but in the mean time there’s a short video at

This term our theme is Once Upon a Story. We will be looking at some traditional tales along with stories that the children are particularly interested in at the moment. We will also be learning about winter and are looking forward to a special visit from the Author Mark Sanders and his dog Monty.

Please note that P.E. lessons this term will be on Wednesday. Please can you remove your child’s earrings as they are not permitted to be worn for P.E? All children need to have plain black shorts and pumps and a  white t-shirt Please ensure PE kits are in school each day.
