Welcome to Oak Class
In Oak Class we are always happy, active, and ready to learn. We greet everyone with a smile and give them a warm welcome.
Our Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum, deepening and broadening the children’s skills and knowledge. Although the children are in a more formal learning environment in Year 1, they continue to learn through exploration, experience, challenge, and investigation using both the classroom and our outdoor learning environments.
Our topics over the year will include learning about the natural world, including naming common plants and trees, the countries that form the United Kingdom, the surrounding seas and comparing localities. We will continue to develop a growth mindset, discuss our emotions and how to about our deal with them. We will also learn about significant events and people, as well as learn new skills in all subjects from playing a glockenspiel to programming a toy.
As staff we enjoy the challenge of teaching in different ways. We are looking forward to the adventure of learning and growing together with the children in our care.
Key Information
PE: Please send the children’s PE kit at the start of each half-term ensuring it is all labelled.
Snack Time: All children are given the choice of a piece of fruit through the Free Fruit Scheme at our morning break or toast/bagels are also available at morning break for a £1 per week payable via SCOPay. Children are also able to have a small bottle of milk each morning which is paid for via Cool Milk.
Homework: We request that all our children read at least five minutes a night to help build up their stamina, practice using their phonic knowledge and have the opportunity to discuss what they have read. Spellings are sent home on a Monday for practising and a spelling test will be done the following Monday. We also ask that the children use Numbots for a period of at least ten minutes, three times a week to reinforce their knowledge of number.
If you need to speak to a member of staff, please do so via our Class Dojo and follow what we get up to in class on our class story and on our Twitter page @coppullprimary
