Welcome to Year 2 – Pear Class
Welcome to Pear Class. We are a Year 2 class who enjoy learning, growing and achieving together. We aim high in all that we do and we enjoy a challenge. The children are encouraged to become independent learners and our exciting curriculum encourages them to become well-rounded and responsible citizens of the future. Each half term our learning will be focussed around a different theme to ensure that the children remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. We have lots of fun activities planned to support the children’s learning across the year and we hope that you enjoy hearing about their days in school!
Our teacher is Mrs Heaton and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Thompson and Mrs Arends.
Please follow us on twitter @coppullprimary to see photographs of what we get up to in school.
This year our themes for each half term are:
Autumn 1: Me and My World
Autumn 2: Fire! Fire!
Spring 1 and Spring 2: Growth and Green Fingers
Summer 1 and Summer 2: The Great Outdoors
This half term we have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that their kit is labelled with their name. Please leave this in school for the half term. We will be using the outdoor running track throughout the year so you may wish to provide your child with an outdoor PE kit – black jogging bottoms and long-sleeved plain top or sweatshirt and trainers.
The children will be given homework every Friday. This will either be in their homework books. The children will also have a spelling test every Friday morning. The spelling list for the following week will be sent home each Friday. The children also have activities set for them on their Active Learn Primary and Times Table Rockstars accounts. You can find the information to access these websites in their homework books.
Each half term we will be focussing on learning a particular times table to help us complete Maths challenges more easily. Below is the times table we will be focussing on for each half term:
Autumn 1: 2 x table
Autumn 2: 5 x table and 10 x table.
Spring 1: 3 x table
Spring 2: 4 x table
Summer Term: mixed to consolidate and recap on the 2, 5, 10 and 4 times tables.
There are some great apps and games that you can find to help your child with recalling their times tables such as Squeebles Times Table 2, Hit the Button and Maths Times Table Trainer. Times tables will also be visited throughout the year in their Active Learn homework.
Read for the Stars
Please encourage your child to read at home at least 4 times a week and sign their diary to enable them to get their Reading Star. For each star earned your child will receive 5 house points and a weekly treat. Those children who have earned every star for the half term will receive a bigger treat at the end of the half term. Those children who complete it every week for the school year are entered into the draw to win a Kindle for their class.
Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us if you have any questions or problems.
