Welcome to Year 2- Pear

Welcome to Year 2 – Pear Class

Welcome to Pear Class.  We are a Year 2 class who enjoy learning, growing and achieving together.  We aim high in all that we do and we enjoy a challenge.  The children are encouraged to become independent learners and our exciting curriculum encourages them to become well-rounded and responsible citizens of the future.  Each half term our learning will be focussed around a different theme to ensure that the children remain motivated, enthused and eager learners.  We have lots of fun activities planned to support the children’s learning across the year and we hope that you enjoy hearing about their days in school!

Our teacher is Mrs Heaton and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Thompson.

Please follow us on twitter @coppullprimary to see photographs of what we get up to in school.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us if you have any questions or problems.

Key Information

PE: This half term we have PE on a Monday and Tuesday.  Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that their kit is labelled with their name.  Please leave this in school for the half term.

Homework: The children will be given homework every Friday.  This will either be set in their homework book or on www.activelearnprimary.co.uk.  Spellings will be sent home on a Monday and tested the following week.

Times Tables:  Each half term we will be focussing on learning a particular times table to help us complete Maths challenges more easily.  Below is the times table we will be focussing on for each half term:

Autumn 1: 2 x table

Autumn 2: 5 x table

Spring 1: 10 x table

Spring 2: 4 x table

Summer Term: mixed to consolidate and recap on the 2, 5, 10 and 4 times tables.

There are some great apps and games that you can find to help your child with recalling their times tables such as Squeebles Times Table 2, Hit the Button and Maths Times Table Trainer.  Times tables will also be visited throughout the year in their Active Learn homework.

Reading:  Please listen to your child read at home as often as you can to support them in Reading and Writing.  Please ensure your child brings their book and diary to school each day so that we can listen to them read.  Your child is part of a Guided Reading group in class in which they complete a shared read with the teacher and complete follow up activities based on the book they have read.
